Because
Russian President Vladimir Putin wasn’t very enthusiastic about
either the technology or design of his former ZIL state
saloon, Mercedes-Benz vehicles were used in his fleet for years. In
order
to be able to go back to a Russian make again in the future,
the Moscow-based engine development institute NAMI designed a new
representative
saloon, the Aurus Senat, on behalf of the government
and using state subsidies. With the support of Porsche Engineering, a
state-of-the-art
V8 hybrid drive system was created, from which
a 2-litre, four-cylinder hybrid was derived, which will be used by Lada
in the
future. Presented to the public for the first time at
Vladimir Putin’s inauguration in May 2018, the Aurus Senat is available
in a S600
version with a length of 5.63 metres and a wheelbase
of 3.30 metres, as well as in the 700S stretch version with a length of
6.63 metres and a wheelbase of 4.30 metres.
