The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL with gullwing doors was the first German sports car of the post-war era. Launched in 1952 as a racing car prototype, the sports coupe showcased its capabilities at numerous motor sports competitions before the start of mass production. Between 1954 and 1957, the Mercedes factory in Stuttgart produced 1400 models of this dream car, which came with a price tag of 29,000 Deutsche Marks. Equipped with a 3-litre, 6-cylinder in-line engine, the gullwing could reach speeds of up to 260 km/h depending on the rear axle ratio – very impressive for its time.
